Expectations soar as Prof Muzaffar H Assadi named new acting VC of Mysuru Varsity

Mysuru: Following the appointment of Prof Muzaffar H Assadi as the new acting VC of University of Mysore, wishes are pouring in from various quarters.

Assadi the Dean of Faculty of Arts, Department of Studies in Political Science, University of Mysore has been appointed for a period of four months from 17.02.2023 to 30.06.2023 the date his deanship ends or until a regular VC is appointed or until further orders or whichever is earlier, as per a notification from the office of Under Secretary, Governor of Karnataka, Thaawarchand Gehlot, also the Chancellor of Universities.

Assadi is replacing Prof H Rajashekar the present acting VC whose tenure ends on 19.02.2023. Rajashekar was made the acting VC, as the tenure of regular VC Prof G Hemantha Kumar ended on 19.11.2022.

If gone by the opinions on social media, as Assadi is popular among intelligentsia and has a large student following, the expectations are high from him.

Many are of the opinion that, the system at the varsity is stagnant and needs a fresh force to restore the reputation of the varsity, founded by Maharaja of Mysore Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.

Assadi is known for his sharp views as he expresses in his columns on various subjects published in English and Kannada dailies in the recent years.

As a political analyst he has been sharing his views on national and State politics in particular.

Assadi who holds a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi, had also served as the Special Officer of Raichur University that was carved out of Gulbarga University (GU), in 2018.

He is a native of Shirva in Udupi district.
