Mysuru: Women achievers from different fields shared their stories of grit and determination on the occasion of International Women’s Day in the city recently.

Vatsalya Seva Foundation, Hinkal and Mahadeshwara Kala Thanda had jointly organised the programme to celebrate Women’s Day and felicitated the women achievers.

Environmentalist Bhanu Mohan who was felicitated on the occasion said “The survival and health of man depends on environment. It is only when the environment is conserved the man can be assured a healthy life. Nowadays we are polluting pure air, light and water to fulfil our selfishness. It is a dangerous development that can prove hazardous to next generation. If we are keen on leaving behind any property for the next generation, it can be only a healthy environment”.

Ningamma the woman caretaker at Vidyaranyapuram graveyard said “I have been in the job for the last 31 years. Unlike people having general fear towards graveyard, I have been living there with my family without any fear”.

“Usually the mortals are brought to graveyard after death, but I have spent most of my lifetime alive in the same place. I am proud of that”, said Ningamma.

Social worker Shanthakumari, Sumitramma and Shivamma were also felicitated on the occasion.

Medical Officer of District Hospital Dr Venkatesh, lecturer Rajendra Prasad Honnalagere of Sarada Vilas College, chartered accountant N B Aradhya, Prabhu Swamy of Hagalu Seva Kendra, Vatsalya Seva Foundation President A C Ravikumar, Nagarathna, Prema Prabhu Swamy and others were present.
