Engineering college faculty cheats 200 students to the tune of Rs 25 lakh; students to miss VTU exam tomorrow

2 min read

Mysuru: A faculty at ATME College of Engineering (ATMECE) on Bannur Road has cheated about 200 engineering students to the tune of Rs 25 lakh that was paid as college fees and semester fees to obtain hall tickets. And those 200 students are now on the verge of losing a semester as they have not yet received the hall ticket and the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) semester exams are scheduled for July 25.

Shockingly, the college management has not come to the rescue of the students leaving them to address the issue on their own.

Several students to whom Mysoorunews.com spoke to alleged that Assistant Professor and Exam co-ordinator Harshitha N was allegedly assigned by the college management to collect fees from the students. Some of the students made payment through digital means, it is alleged. But, now Harshitha has remained incommunicado, despite repeated attempts by the students to contact her for the hall ticket.

Some of the students alleged that a few of them have even paid Rs 90,000 as college fee through digital mode to the faculty. And the exam fee was Rs 770 each. The total amount paid to Harshitha is nearly Rs 25 lakh by students.

Desperate students – some of whom are in fourth, sixth and final semesters – approached the college management but in vain. They have asked the students to approach the police on their own. Although, a complaint has been lodged at Varuna police station, nothing has been done so far, alleged the students.

When contacted, college PRO Chandrashekhar said that “the college management learnt about Harshitha cheating students only last month. She wasn’t the authorised person to collect college fees. So, we made her give an undertaking to college management to give back the students’ money. But, so far she has not honoured it and is absconding. We have provided all the details to the police,” he said.

VTU semester exams are commencing from July 25 and these 200 students are staring at a bleak future.
