Elephant Kusha to be released back into forest: Minister Limbavali

Bengaluru: Minister for Forests Aravind Limbavali on Wednesday issued orders directing to release elephant Kusha from captive into the wild.

Kusha will be radio collarred before releasing in the place identified by the department after taking all safety measures.

The minister who held a meeting with the top officials, after the complaints of Kusha being subjected into torture emerged with animal lovers taking exception, took the decision to release the elephant.

The minister also clarified that the pachyderm is healthy and is not subjected to any torture.

Kusha who had gone missing after he was allegedly let out for grazing in the forest from Dubare Elephant Camp a year ago was rescued and brought back to the camp recently.

Chief of Forest Staff and PCCF Sanjay Mohan and PCCF ( Wildlife) Vijay Kumar Gogi and other officers were present.
