Mysuru: As the Mayor’s chair has fallen vacant, it has been decided to conduct election for a new Mayor of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on June 11.

Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Shilpa Nag confirmed this to Mysoorunews.com after meeting Regional Commissioner Prakash on Wednesday

Shilpa Nag said “currently deputy mayor is Incharge of Mayor’s office. As we have to follow all Covid protocols, we will not go for election during the lockdown period that is up to June 7.”

The Commissioner also clarified that the reservation for Mayor’s election will be the same (general category woman) and the total Corporators are 64.

Recently Mayor Rukmini Madegowda had to vacate the office, as the High Court upheld the order of a Mysuru court cancelling her election to the city Corporation. The court had also ordered for reelection to Ward 36 (Yaraganahalli) represented by Rukmini in MCC.

With this the strength of the Council was reduced to 64 against 65 earlier.
