Eight-day theatre fest to mark B V Karanth’s birth anniversary from September 19

Mysuru: Rangayana is hosting eight-day B V Karanth Theatre festival to mark the birth anniversary of theatre doyen from September 19.

Rangayana Director Addanda Cariyappa told media persons on Wednesday “the birth anniversary of Karanth the founding director of Rangayana will be celebrated as Bharathiya Ranga Sangeetha Day on September 19. A series of programmes are lined up to mark the occasion.”

A bust of Karanth will also be unveiled on the occassion, at the repertory.

Director of National School of Drama (NSD) Veena Sharma will unveil the bust. The bust was sculpted by CAVA artist Manjunath and Veeranna Arkasali. It is three feet tall and will be installed on a pedestal of four feet. It will come up at the park opposite B V Karanth Ranga Chavadi.

Noted industrialist and patron of art M Jagannath Shenoy will inaugurate the theatre festival.

The third edition of B V Karanth’s biography “Illiralaare Allige Hogalaare” written by Vaidehi will be released by Kannada and Culture Department director S Rangappa.  Karnataka Shilpakala Academy Chairman Veeranna M Arkasaali will be present.

Rajasthan based internationally acclaimed Sufi singer Mukthiyar Ali and troupe will perform at 6-30 PM.

On September 26 Ranga Bheeshma Rangavalokana seminar is arranged at 10 AM.

Theatre artiste and sandalwood actor Srinivas Prabhu will talk on “Karantara Rangabharatadalli Naavu”. Theatre director Suresh Anagalli will talk on “Karanta Rangamarga”. Theatre and sandalwood actor Sundarraj will be the guest of honour.

Karanath Rangotsava on September 20- “Lavani Ke Rang” by Kalibilli Productions , Puna, Maharashtra at 6-30 PM.

On September 21 Raga-Saraga by Rangayana senior artistes at 6-30 PM. Karanta Rangageethegalu by Rangayana junior artistes at 7-15 PM.

On September 22 ‘Aade Adhure’ by Wings Theatre Group at 6-30 PM.

On September 23- Baka by Babukodi Pratishtana at 6-30 PM.

On September 24 ‘Mookana Makkalu’ play by Rangayana Junior artistes at 6-30 PM.

On September 25 Chandramuki play by Krupasannidi Samanvaya Kalakendra, Hubballi at 7-30 PM.

On September 25 Prakash Belavadi directed ‘Parva’ Play will be staged at 10 AM.

All plays will be staged as per the Covid norms of the state government. While the entry ticket for other plays are priced at Rs 20, for Parva it is priced at Rs 250.

Joint Director of Kannada and Culture department V N Mallikarjun Swamy and theatre enthusiast Jayaram Patil are seen.
