Mysuru: Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) has urged the police to drop sedition charges against the organisers of the protest against JNU violence and also ‘Free Kashmir Placard’ holder girl Nalini Balakumar.
DSS activist Choranahalli Shivanna addressed media persons on January 12 and said the students along with various other like- minded organisations took out a protest rally on January 8 at Manasagangotri campus only to condemn JNU violence.
However, the Jayalakshmipuram police who booked a suo motu while police booked suo motu case have framed sedition charges according to IPC section 34, 124A. The protest against government or violence is not anti- national activity. Hence, police should introspect and withdraw the particular charge, he said.
‘Free Kashmir’ placard holder girl Nalini Balakumar has also stated in her clarification that it was only in the interest of safeguarding the rights of people in the valley did she came out with the placard.
The police should also consider her clarifications and revoke the sedition case, he added.
