Draw inspiration from our ancestors to conserve environment: CM

Bengaluru: On World Environment Day, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged everyone to draw inspiration from our ancestors in environment protection. “Our ancestors would plant a sapling for every tree cut. But now we are only cutting trees and do not care about planting a sapling,” he said after inaugurating World Environment Day.

“Man must live with nature. Our lives will be better if our forests are abundant which in turn gives us good rainfall and crops,” Siddaramaiah said emphasizing on environment conservation.

The World Environment Day is observed to create awareness and also to find solutions regarding the challenges faced. We are already facing natural disasters due to climate change which needs to be addressed, said the chief minister.

Stressing that the government has banned plastic of all forms in 2016, he urged the public to make judicious use of water for our future generation. He was also of the opinion that children should be educated on protecting nature.

On the occasion, he presented Karnataka State Environment Awards and the winners are Manjunath. H from south zone, Dr. MD Subash Chandran from Western Ghats and coastal zone, Dr. MR Desai from North.

Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru, Sri Deviramma Vanasiri Trust, Hassan District from Western Ghats and coastal zone, Vanasiri Trust, Sindhanur Taluk, Raichur District from North Zone were awarded in the institutions category.

Deputy Chief Minister, D K Shivakumar, Minister for forests Eshwar Khandre and other officials were present.
