Mysuru: A doctor by profession and skater by passion from Mysuru is all set to represent the country in world championship in Birmingham in United States of America (USA) in July 2022.

Varsha S Puranik a skater from Mysuru is selected to represent the country in speed skating world championship abroad next year.
What makes the contest unique is, it is a non- Olympic games championship, organised once in four years.

The 34- year-old Varsha Puranik is a doctor at Cauvery Multi Specialty Hospital on Bannur road in the city and Assistant Professor of Microbiology.
When it comes to the world championship, only top 15 contestants are selected according to the points and their overall performance.

Varsha got selected in senior category in 15th position officially making it to the world games championship.
Varsha told Mysoorunews.com “I started skating at the age of three. My brother Sriharsha also was into skating as he joined the classes at J K Grounds, but he discontinued later. However, I continued to practice and has now entered the world championship.”

It’s 30 years since the passion and pride to be a skater that has taken her to this level having participated in state level, national level championships. In the last five years she has won gold medals totalling 13 national level gold medals. The latest gold medal she won was in New Delhi on December 15.
In World games championship, the contests are organised in the categories of Short distance in three events- 500 metres in lane, 100 metres road and 1000 metres lane category. I am very responsible and is confident of winning the medals for the country, Dr Varsha said.
Currently, Varsha is practicing at Rao Skating Academy at Unnati Nagar in the outskirts and is associated with dkating coach Srikanta Rao.
