Mysuru: Dr Chaitra Narayan the new Syndicate member of University of Mysore is an entrepreneur.
The founder of Codagu Agritech and Shivam Distillations, Chaitra has a PhD and MSc in Microbiology from University of Mysore (third Rank). Her PhD thesis was on Anti – HIV Activity of Indian Medicinal Plants of Western Ghats, India. Research output – Terminalia paniculata, an Indian medicinal tree Isolation and characterisation of ellagic acid from endemic to Western Ghats.
Chaitra was selected by Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi for the Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in 2018 to present her ideas before President Ram Nath Kovind. She was also selected for presentation before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Biocapsule Technology under Make In India Initiative.
Currently working for the farmers of Kodagu, Hunsur and Periyapatna regions since 2016 towards alternative farming which involves cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, it has successfully led to an increase in revenue generation of farmers along with an assured buy – back market.
Codagu Agritech the world’s first Biocapsule manufacturing company was started in June 2016 to serve the farming community. It helps farmers go for ecologically safe and sustainable farming.
Shivam Distillation, started in January 2019 focuses on providing farmers of Hunsur and Periyapatna regions of the state to cultivate aromatic crops as an alternative to tobacco cultivation. An aromatic plant processing and distillation unit has been set up in the same region to provide the farmers with market at their doorstep and also to help double their income.
Chaitra is also associated with Young Indians of Confederation of Indian Industry Young Indians for various Institutional and social causes.
