Don’t lower guard! Emergence of third wave depends on people’s behaviour, feels Sudhakar

Bengaluru: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Tuesday said “the emergence of Covid third wave depends on people’s behaviour.”

Speaking to media persons before leaving for Chikkaballapur, Sudhakar said “in the last one week the Covid cases in the State are less than 1.5 per cent. It can dip further to less than one per cent. But what fears me is the behaviour of the people who are gathering at temples and markets in large numbers. If the people turn up in big numbers at marriages again violating the permissible level, it will be a grave threat.”
We should be more cautious till 65 per cent to 70 per cent of the population is vaccinated. If there is any decline in Covid cases, there shouldn’t be any impression that the second wave has subsided and third wave won’t hit the State, said Sudhakar.
We should follow safety measures like wearing mask and maintaining social distance for another three to four months, said Sudhakar making an appeal to people in this regard.
Denying any signs of Covid third wave in the State, Sudhakar referred to the cases at alarming levels still in Kerala and Maharashtra where second wave is yet to subside. However, we haven’t lowered the guard as 1.5 lakh to 1.6 lakh tests are conducted daily and it will be maintained up to December, added Sudhakar.
It’s only if the fresh cases are above 3,000 in the State, we should be alarmed, said Sudhakar.
On any plans to restore pubs and revoke night curfew, Sudhakar said he will be meeting the chief minister in the evening to apprise the latter about the prevailing situation.
