Do you know Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s tryst with Kannada films?

Mysuru: Kannada cine actor Jaggesh has recalled the tryst of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru with Kannada films.

Jaggesh was participating in the inaugural session of Dasara film festival at Kalamandir, when he recalled how the king of Mysuru Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar encouraged A V Varadacharya to produce a film during 1920. It was the era of silent films then.

Deputy chief minister Govind Karjol, actor Jaggesh, actor and producer Vijayalakshmi Singh, film producer Sandesh Nagaraj and MLA L Nagendra at the inauguration of Dasara film festival in Mysuru.

“Nalwadi can be truly called as first producer of a Kannada film”, Jaggesh said.

A patron of art, Nalwadi encouraged many courtesans. Similarly the erstwhile Mysuru kingdom has many firsts to its credit.

Deputy Chief Minister Govind M Karjol has promised to look into the plight of the artistes in distress. Actors ashika Ranganath, Sanchita Padukone were the other star attractions.

Senior actor, producer and director Vijayalakshmi Singh was the other star attraction.
