1 min read

Mysuru: When the Mysuru was still under Maharaja’s rule, it was a practice among the rulers to gift animals. And, the place to keep the gift may be a palace precincts again.

This was what came to know from the 27th titular ruler of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Sunday.

Yaduveer who was the chief guest during the inauguration of youth club at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens (Mysuru Zoo), recalled what he had gleaned from the history related to palace.

“It was a practice among Maharajas then, and the animals received as gift were kept at Lokranjan Mahal Palace next to Zoo. In the later days, the animals may have been kept at the place which later became zoo during the time of Chamaraja Wadiyar X in whose name the zoo is officially named as ‘ Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens’.

It was started on a 10 acre land which later grew by leaps and bounds to over 100 acres”, recalled Yaduveer to a thunderous applause.

Truly, name a field, Wadiyars the erstwhile Maharajas of Mysuru have left an indelible mark and Mysuru will remain indebted to them forever.
