Mysuru: Cooperation and district incharge Minister S T Somashekar on Monday promised to get the required consent for the pending proposal of Rs 7.5 crore to repair the rooms at under-graduate students hostel of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC and RI), Mysuru.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the rooms that were in a dilapidated condition, parts of which were flaking out in the recent days, the minister said “I learnt about the issues here at the hostel through media reports. I will discuss about the pending proposal with Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar and get the required funds at the earliest”.
Quoting the words of MMC and RI Dean and Director Dr Nanjaraj, the minister said “the proposal for taking up repair works was submitted in 2017. But, it has not become a reality till date. As the cost of all the materials have shot up, the estimated cost may also be enhanced by 10 per cent to 15 per cent. I will discuss with the minister and also raise the issue at cabinet meeting”, he added.
Dr Nanjaraj said “We will provide alternative rooms for hostel inmates. A new hostel building for UG girls and boys is coming up at PKTB Sanatorium premises. We will also request for additional grants to take up repair works”.
There are 140 rooms at UG Hostel and 20 rooms are unsafe to stay.
