District minister Somanna to meet Pramoda Devi Wadiyar

Mysuru: Newly appointed housing and district in-charge minister V Somanna will be calling on Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, member of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru on August 29.
It is billed as a courtesy visit and the meeting will take place at Palace at 7 pm.
It is a tradition that is being followed by the political and bureaucratic heads from the past several years to visit the erstwhile royals to seek their cooperation ahead of Dasara.
Wadiyars celebrate Vijayadashami on their own. But, have to give their consent every year for the government to use 750-kg golden howdah, during the government sponsored event. The government also pays a royalty in several lakhs of rupees as a honour, to use the antique piece, that was once used to carry the maharajas during Vijayadashami.
Now, the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari is taken in the howdah on the elephant during Vijayadashami procession.
