Disposal of bio-medical waste: Pandavapura TMC sets norms

Mandya: Pandavapura town municipal council (TMC) has set norms to be followed by the hospitals, clinics and others involved in health care to collect and dispose bio-medical waste in compliance with the rules.

Both the liquid waste and solid waste should be segregated according to the prescribed rules. The liquid waste should be diverted to septic tanks on the premises of respective institutions, where it should be stored and treated before disposing the same in a scientific method. It should not be released to road or drain. Similarly, the solid waste and bio-medical waste should be separated without mixing them.The usage of plastic carry bags are also prohibited.

The notices have been served to all the hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, diagnostic laboratories, veterinary hospitals, dispensaries, animal rescue centres and all other organisations involved in providing health services.

If anybody violates, they will be dealt under law, said Environment Engineer M G Shafinaz.
