Diabetic retinopathy! ASG Eye Hospital plans DIA Walk Rally to create awareness

2 min read

Mysuru: Diabetes is one of the major health problems in India. Around 7 crore people in India are diagnosed with diabetes; undiagnosed cases are estimated to be even higher.

Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that affects the health of the retina and can cause blindness. There is a lack of awareness among diabetic patients who need to get their retina screened by a retina specialist at least once every six months to detect diabetic retinopathy in its early stages.

As a part of the health awareness initiative, ASG Eye Hospital is conducting a DIA WALK rally on Monday. This is to create awareness in the city regarding diabetes and diabetic retinopathy.

Dr  K H Prasad, District Health Officer of Mysuru, will lead and flag off DIA WALK Rally. Mysuru City Corporation Health Officer Dr Nagaraju and Mysuru District Journalists Association President S T Ravikumar will also be the chief guest.

This DIA WALK rally will take place on Monday, November 14, 2022, on the eve of “World Diabetes Day,” beginning at 8 AM at the ASG EYE Hospital Premises, Narayana Shastry road.

The route of the DIA WALK rally is from the ASG eye hospital premises to Siddappa Square, Agrahara Circle, Patashala Signal, Mysore City Corporation, Santepete Road, Devaraj Urs Road, and back to the ASG eye hospital on Narayana Shastri Road.

ASG Eye Hospital Mysuru is joined by other associations like NSS volunteers of University of Mysore, Olavu Foundation, JP Nagar Rotary Club, SBI pensioners, SBM pensioners, state government pensioners, senior citizens, Shishkarni School, Molecular Diagnostics Pvt Ltd, Simphi Samaja and NSS volunteers from Gangotri College.

15-day camp

As up to 20% of patients with diabetes have sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy and are completely unaware of it, diabetic retinopathy screening is the most effective means of early detection of diabetic retinopathy.

This DIA WALK rally will also mark the beginning of a 15-day free diabetic retinopathy screening camp for all diabetic patients at ASG Eye Hospital, Mysuru, from November 14 to November 29.
