Devotees offer prayers at Bandipur core forest area on Maha Shivarathri

Chamarajanagar: Religious fervor marked Maha Shivarathri at Tavarekatte Mahadeshwara temple, a part of the core area of Bandipur National Tiger Reserve, on Sunday. Hundreds of devotees from Soliga tribe and villages on the forest fringes observed Maha Shivarathri at the temple. This is an annual ritual where devotees are allowed to observe the ritual inside the forest.

Bandipur management provided bus facilities and there was food arrangement from the management too. Bandipur officials including Chief Conservator of Forest Ramesh Kumar also participated in the pooja at Tavarekatte temple, which opens only during Maha Shivarathri day.

Bandipur Tiger Reserve has six to eight such places of worship – Beladakuppe Mahadeshwara Temple in Hediyala Range, Gundre Maramma temple, Gundre Range, Marigudi temple in Maddur Range and Dargha in Gundre Range.

These temples are located in the core zone of tiger protection area in Bandipur.
