Despite HC ban, cat fish breeding in Mandya

Mandya: Catfish considered as an invasive species from Africa that poses threat to native species is banned in the State, after the high court order.
But, the racket involved in breeding are luring the farmers with false subsidy offers in the name of the government, in Mandya.
At Kasaravadi village in Mandya, the catfish has been released into ponds after taking the water bodies on lease.
It is being bred illegally and also being sold, which if consumed will also take a toll on the health of the people.
Some farmers are also worried about the breeding of catfish due to its cataclysmic impact on the local breeds.
