Despite Covid crises, festive spirit high on the eve of Ayudha Puja festival

Mysuru: Ayudha Puja that falls on the eve of Vijayadashami every year is one of the major festivaA cut of chrysanthemum flower is priced in the range of Rs 60 to Rs 80. ls. The festival this year is on Sunday ( October 25).
Its traditional uniqueness lies in worshipping vehicles, electronic goods, machines and all those materials that mark daily life.
The history dates back to the princely rule when Wadiyar’s the erstwhile rulers of Mysuru were worshiping their armoury and cavalry including horses, elephants, camels, chariots and so on.
It is still in practice with the current custodian of the royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar performing the traditional rituals on the day, with sartorial elegance, sarpech, bazuband and all others that suit a king on palace premises.
When it comes to general public too, the materials used in daily life irrespective of vehicles and weapons are decorated with turmeric, vermilion, flowers along with lemons topped with green chillis to keep the evil away.
Ayudha Puja at offices and factories are celebrated grandly by breaking ashgourd and giving bonuses to the employees. It is to pray for the good and to keep away evils. 
 
Ahead of the festival, the markets in the city are crowded with people buying flowers, puffed rice, coconuts, ash gourds, lemons, banana plantains and many other essentials. The prices of these items are also rising as the festival is nearing.
The ashgourds are sold from the minimum range of ₹ 100 and more depending upon the size, while the flowers are sold at ₹ 80 depending upon the type of flower and the banana leaves at ₹40 for a pair. 
 
There seems to be no affect of the pandemic on shoppers as the large crowds were noticed at markets- from Nanjumalige to Vani Vilasa Market at Agrahara, Dhanvantri road, J K Ground ( where the flower market of Devaraja Market has been shifted till Ayudha Puja day) and all other places where vendors set up make shift shops to sell festival needs.
People ignored social distancing and wearing mask. The hype and energy to celebrate the festival had people risking safety and health measures. This could result in the increase of the number of cases and cause severe consequences.
The people are responsible for their own health and need to take right precautions at this crucial times.
