Deia Urs wins Dasara CM Cup Karate Gold

Mysuru: Karateka Deia Urs from Mysuru, who took part in State Level Dasara Games Karate Championship CM Cup 2022 won gold medal in the individual women’s kata category.

In the finals Deia Urs took the gold by securing 26.00 points as against her opponents Vandita Joshi of Kalaburagi who took the silver (25.20) and Lavanya Markal of Dharwad took the bronze (24.60).

State Level Dasara Games Karate Championship CM Cup 2022 was organized by Karnataka Government Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports in association with Akhila Karnataka Sports Karate Association and hosted by Mysore Karate Association, recently at the Maharaja’s College Indoor Stadium.

Deia Urs, holds 4th degree black belt in karate, is trained by her father B S Srinath Urs, a certified Karate India Organization Coach. Both practice under All India Shito Ryu Karate Do Union President Kyoshi C S Arun Machaiah.

Individual championships were held in both Kata & Kumite for men & women. Men’s Kumite events was divided into 8 categories and the women’s into 6 weight categories with Individual kata into 2 categories (men & women). Karatekas all over Karnataka took part in the championships.

Selection was held in all the respective districts by the affiliated association and only first place winners in the respective categories took part in the Dasara CM Cup Karate Championship held here.

In the individual women’s kata, 18 karatekas representing Bidar, Uttara Kannada, Bagalkot, Chamarajanagara, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagalur, Yadagiri, Bengaluru South, Bengaluru North, Raichur, Belagavi, Bellari and Mysuru took part, which was divided into two pools.

The 4 toppers in each pool were selected for the finals and the final 8 were pitted against each other for the Gold, silver and bronze medals.
