Chamarajanagar: Male Mahadeshwara Hills in Hanur taluk attracts thousands of devotees during Deepavali to the temple of Lord Mahadeshwara and other temples inside the sanctuary.
It also brings back the scare of increase in plastic waste that threatens flora and fauna engulfing the shrine.

In their relentless effort to curb the use of plastic among devotees who visit the temples on foot traversing through the sanctuary, forest personnel along with volunteers are on a drive against plastic from October 25. It is a part of plastic free India call.

DCF M M Hills wildlife region Yedukondalu V told Mysoorunews.com “Additional forest personnel are deployed at 10 points with 35 men on the task to distribute hand leafs on do’s and don’ts in the forest. The forest personnel are joined by scores of volunteers from software firms in Bengaluru. Plastic materials and dhoopa used for the rituals are the main threats to green cover. A special care has been taken to clear the trash and loads of waste have been collected and sent to waste disposal units. Health check-up camp is also organised as a part of the drive”.
Eco friendly organisations from Mysuru also are taking part in the drive.
