Decision on administration at Murugha Mutt to be taken within ambit of law: CM

Bengaluru/ Raichur: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that the decision over the administration of Murugha Mutt in Chitradurga will be taken within the ambit of law.

The chief minister told media persons that the devotees and authorities of the Mutt led by former minister Ekanthaiah met him on Friday.

They have explained about the hurdles caused in day to day administration of the Mutt. The Mutt also has a Trust, hence it is imperative to discuss about the next step with the legal luminaries. I am also reviewing the pros and cons. Whatever should be done, it should be in compliance with the law, added CM.

Meanwhile, speaking to media persons in Raichur, Revenue Minister R Ashoka on Saturday hinted at taking a decision over the Mutt in compliance with the court order.

“The seer is in jail and the case is in the court. Hence the chief minister will be taking a decision after the court verdict”, clarified Ashok.

It may be mentioned that Dr Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana the pontiff of Murugha Mutt was arrested under POCSO charges on September 1.

In all six minor girls have accused the seer of sexual assault, with the latest four incidents coming to light only on October 13 after a FIR was registered at Nazarbad police station in Mysuru.

While the first case involving two minors came to light on August 26 after a FIR was filed at the same Nazarbad station.
