Bengaluru: A team of Lokayukta police led by Lokayukta IGP Dr Subramanyeshwara Rao inspected KR Circle underpass – on Wednesday – where a woman died after her car with family members was stuck in the flooded underpass. Following the May 21 incident, the Lokayukta had taken a suo motu cognisance of the incident and had directed the Lokayukta police to investigate into it.
The team which visited the underpass sought details from engineers of Lokayukta technical department. In the presence of IGP, a tanker was emptied in the underpass to check what caused the underpass to flood. Officials and engineers from BWSSB were summoned to the spot and obtained explanation from them.
The team questioned the BBMP officials on why rainwater did not flow from the underpass but flooded on the ill-fated day. They also sought to know preventive measures that the BBMP officials had taken to prevent water clogging in the underpass. It is reported that the team has learnt that not just KR Circle underpass but many underpass in the City are poorly maintained by the civic body.
The team has reportedly learned that the drains that connect the underpass have not been properly maintained. Besides, silt accumulated in these drains have also not been cleared which resulted in flooding.
The team is expected to question senior officials from the BBMP on poor maintenance of underpass and lack of preventive measures to check flooding before monsoon.
