Mysuru: A real police has made a detailed study on how police are portrayed in reel.

SP of District Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE) Cell, Mysuru, B T Kavita has done a PhD in Kannada from Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS), Manasagangotri, University of Mysore.

Kavita received her PhD degree during the 101st convocation of University of Mysore on Tuesday.

The topic is- Representation of Police in Kannada films: A cultural study, guided by N Lolakshi.

Kavita studied not less than 70 movies and hundreds of books related to police and cinema to prepare her thesis.

After receiving many suggestions, she is also planning to bring out her thesis in the form of a book.

Kavitha told Mysoorunews.com “it’s a honour to get PhD from University of Mysore. The topic is a rare combination as cinema is mass media and the effective portrayal of police department is important. While in some of the movies, we can see decorated police characters, in some other movies, the characters act as a spark to think more like that in Slum Bala and Kendasampige.”

It was a big task managing duty, family and research for the last five years. I am happy today for accomplishing the task. Also I thank my family, husband Dr Nagashayana, officer at Excise department and my senior officers and retired officers who all cooperated in the research work,” recalled Kavita.

Kavita is also a poet from her student days. In a recent Dasara Poetry Festival, she had also rendered a poetry.

Kavita has previously served as ACP, DCP (crime and traffic) in Mysuru.
