Mysuru: As part of cannon fire practice for dasara jumbos, the Mysuru City Armed Reserve (CAR) troupe conducted the practice at Dasara exhibition grounds parking space on Wednesday. Dasara debutants Rohith and Hiranya were scared a little when the cannons were sounded.
The 14 elephants led by Abhimanyu took part in the practice along with Mounted Police on 43 horses.
Three rounds of seven cannons were fired – in total 21 rounds – during the practice. A second round of practice will also be conducted, soon. The cannons will be fired during the Vijayadashami procession on October 24 and also to commence the torchlight parade.
DCF Sourabh Kumar, Veterinarian Dr Mujeeb Ur Reham and DCP M Mutturaju, Mounted Police Company SP Shylendra others presided.
Firing cannon is an age-old practice in the erstwhile Mysore state. Britishers used to accord a 21-gun salute to Mysore Royal family during the British rule.
