Dasara jumbos mahouts, kavadis undergo health check

Mysuru: Mahouts and kavadis of Dasara elephants, and their family members participated in a free health screening camp organised by Narayana Health at the Mysore Palace premises on Wednesday.
The physicians and staff from Narayana Health conducted various tests like blood sugar, blood pressure and cancer detection for the camp participants.
A total of 150 individuals, including 14 mahouts, 14 kavadis and their family members, underwent various health check-up.
The screenings included Bone Mineral Density (BMD), echo cardiograms, blood glucose and blood pressure tests.
Narayana Health also announced to provide further treatment for those in need among the mahouts and kavadis, at a discounted tariff.
Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF), Dr I B Prabhu Gowda said, mahouts and kavadis are the caretakers of the elephants. At the Forest Department, we also ensure the well-being of these caretakers and their families. With everyone gathered in Mysuru for Dasara festival, we felt it was the right time to organise a health check up camp. Narayana Health has taken a step forward to provide free medical services on-site, and the initiative has been well-received by our staff and the participants.
Dr Deepak, Superintendent of Narayana Health, added, Dasara is a grand celebration, and the elephants are one of its major attractions. Their caretakers and their families, who are camping at Mysore Palace for the festivities, were provided with health screenings, including new cardiac and cancer detection tests. We have also decided to offer discounted treatment for those in need.
