Dasara elephants successfully complete second round of practice with cannons

Mysuru: Dasara elephants on Tuesday successfully completed second round of Cannon fire practice at the parking lot of Mysuru Palace.

Barring elephants Dhananjaya, Ashwathama and Lakshmi who were little panic to the sound emitting from the burst of cannon, it was otherwise a successful completion of second of practice.

Howdah elephant Abhimanyu remained quiet and gentle and obeyed the instructions of mahout J K Vasantha during the trial.

The next and final round of practice will be on held on October 8.

Whole practice was headed by City Police and Forest officials. City Armed Reserve police men participated in the practice.

DCF V Karikalan told media “all the elephants are participating well, and they are ready for Dasara. Abhimanyu, Dhananjaya, Gopalaswmay, Cauvery, Chaitra, Ashwathama, Vikrama and Lakshmi are able to take part in Dasara celebrations. All are good at health with the best of food intake,” he said.

It is a tradition in practice to fire cannon during Jamboo  Savari to offer 21-gun salute to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari in the 750-kg Golden howdah carried in it.
