Mysuru: For Dasara elephants Abhimanyu and Eshwara, it’s like a ‘Guru- Shishya’ bonding. How?

Five years ago when there was a havoc in rural parts of Hassan due to the raid of a rogue elephant, 53-year-old Abhimanyu ( In picture above) was taken to capture that trouble making pachyderm.

It was the same elephant that was successfully captured and named later as Eshwara.

Abhimanyu is not just a Dasara veteran, but also an experienced animal, the services of whom is being used by forest department in  capturing and taming the wild elephants and also in treating the elephants. He has the credit of participating in over 100 such operations, including tiger.

Eshwara, 49, who is making his debut in Dasara this year, is also following in the footsteps of his master Abhimanyu. Abhimanyu who helped in taming Eshwara, has a good command over him.

Abhimanyu is equally experienced like howdah carrier Arjuna and has been taking part in Dasara from 20 years.

Arjuna was captured in khedda method in Kakankote Forest in 1968, and has been participating in Dasara from 19 to 20 years.

The first batch of six Dasara elephants that have arrived at Palace are- Arjuna, Abhimanyu, Dhananjaya, Vijaya, Varalakshmi and Eshwara.
