Dasara cultural programmes! Stage at palace may get bigger to accommodate local artistes, says AD Channappa

Mysuru: The local artistes who are feeling deprived, especially after the authorities concerned have decided to restrict Dasara cultural programmes to Palace premises, may stand a chance.

This follows the demand raised by the local artistes who in a recent media briefing wanted the authorities to reconsider their decision in the interest of local artistes.

Following this, Kannada and Culture Department is mulling over the possibilities of extending the timings of Dasara cultural programmes on the palace premises.

Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director H Channappa said “We are receiving demand from local performers. In this wake we are working on extending the timing of performance at Mysore Palace stage. If possible we will plan for day long events from 10 AM to 4 PM. However, it is left to the discretion of district minister”, said Channappa.
“It’s crisis time due to pandemic and we can’t bring artistes from other districts and states to perform here. Only national and internationally acclaimed performers will take part. We understand the pain of local performers and we will try to give them an opportunity”, he stated.
Corona pandemic has pushed everyone into trouble. It’s really a challenge to organise cultural programmes, said Channappa.
The apprehension among the local artistes stems from the fact that, the Dasara Executive Committee which met at the Palace Board recently had announced that “Unlike previous years, Dasara cultural programmes will be held only at Palace venue. While the programmes at other venues stand cancelled”.
The above decision was taken as Dasara this year will be simple and jamboo Savari will be restricted to Palace premises only.
