Dasara cultural programmes restricted to Palace! Sound system operators lose rhythm

2 min read

Mysuru: As uncertainty prevails over the length of Dasara cultural programmes, those relying on the big ticket event are still staring at loss with no sign of revival.

The sound system operators who were largely dependent on the cultural programmes are waiting to unbox speakers, mikes and audio mixers, but when, remains the question.

Till the pandemic struck the country in March, Cultural Capital Mysuru saw various programmes non-stop. What happened later is known to all.

Nearly 200 sound system operators across the district are waiting for the green signal of the government to organise programmes during Dasara.

Though they were betting big on Ganesha festival, the government rules and regulations to comply with Covid regulations made them silent. Now, they are waiting for Dasara with all the hopes.

The state government which has decided to make Dasara simple, restricting the rituals and related programmes to Palace and Chamundi Hill, has dampened the spirit of sound system operators again. Earlier Dasara programmes were organised at nearly 10 more stages and venues.

Omkar Sound System operator Anand told Mysoorunews.com “it’s a hard time since March, as nearly 200 sound system operators in the city alone are rendered jobless. We are waiting for the nod of government, as it has been requested to extend the timings of cultural programmes. While Simple Dasara will definitely impact our business, the cultural programmes must be extended to few more stages. We are dependent on those programmes”, said Anand.
