Dasara 2023: Second batch of jumbos join Team Abhimanyu in Mysuru

Mysuru: The second batch of Dasara elephants arrived at Mysuru Palace to take part in the upcoming Dasara festivities here on Monday.

The second batch of pachyderms include Rohith (male), aged 21 years and Hiranya (female) is aged 46 years. Both are from Rampura Elephant camp in Bandipur and are debuting in this year’s Dasara festivities.

From Dubare elephant camp, Prashanth (male) aged 50 years and Sugreeva (male) aged 41 years have also arrived at Mysuru. Both have taken part in previous Dasara festivities. Also, Lakshmi (female) aged 52 years has arrived from Doddaharave elephant camp in Nagarahole to take part in Dasara celebration. She is also debuting for the first time.

Meanwhile, the howdah elephant Abhimanyu is undergoing training with 750 kg sack bag on his back along with his Jamboo Savari team. As a practice, howdah elephant Abhimanyu went up until Bannimantap – where the Jamboo Savari culminates. Dasara elephant Mahendra is also undergoing training.

The second batch of elephants will take part in the training – along with the first batch of elephants after being reviewed by the veterinarian.

Meanwhile, temporary camps have been set up for the mahouts and their families. And their daily necessities have been taken care of.
