Dasara 2021! Forest personnel visit Rampura elephant camp, select three jumbos

Mysuru: With the date of Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara-2021 drawing close, forest officials visited Rampura Elephant camp in Bandipur forest to select elephants for the annual pageantry.

Jamboo Savari (Vijayadashami) the last leg of Mysuru Dasara is on October 15. The Navaratri will begin nine days prior to Jamboo Savari.
A team of officers led by DCF (social forestry) Dr V Karikalan including Veterinarian Dr Vasim Mirza and others visited Rampura Elephant camp at Bandipur National Tiger Reserve Forest and selected three elephants- Chaitra, Lakshmi and Parathasarathi.

If these elephants find place in the final list, they will be a part of first batch of elephants that will be coming to Mysuru.
Till date 13 to 14 elephants are shortlisted, and the final call will be taken soon.
In the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, Dasara,was reduced to a traditional event previous year sans usual paraphernalia associated with it.
Abhimanyu was the howdah elephant who carried famed 750-kg Golden Howdah with the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari within the palace precincts.
Dasara Highpower Committee meeting of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is scheduled on September 3 in Bengaluru.
It is only after the meeting we will get to know about the scale of Dasara this year.
