Dasara 2020! Abhimanyu to carry Golden Howdah for Jamboo Savari

Mysuru: Dasara elephants will be welcomed at Palace premises on October 02, Navaratri will begin on October 17 and the decision on prividing entry to people on the palace premises on Jamboo Savari day will be decided later.

These are the highlights of the first Dasara executive Committee meeting held in the city on Saturday.

In the meeting chaired by Kannada and Culture Minister C T Ravi along with Cooperation and District incharge minister S  T Somashekar  “it was decided to give a go by for Gajpayana and directly welcome five Dasara elephants on the palace premises on October 2 at 12.18 pm. As it has been decided to celebrated Dasara as a simple festival in the wake of Covid-19, the traditional Gajapayana from the forest at Veeranahosahalli, that marked the beginning of the march of Dasara elephants towards Palace all these years, is cancelled this time”.

Navaratri festivities will be inaugurated on October 17 between 7.45 am and 8.15 am. While one among the Corona Warriors will inaugurate the festivities, the remaining Corona Warriors will be felicitated. There is also a proposal to include the name of a person who has been handling the bodies of Covid victims as a Corona Warrior for felicitation during the inaugural session.

While it has been already announced that the jamboo Savari is restricted to Palace premises, it has been decided that ‘elephant Abhimanyu will carry 750-kg Golden Howdah. Vikrama, Gopi, Vijaya and Cauvery are the other elephants who will be taking part in jamboo Savari’.

While the seating arrangements can be made for 2000 people on the palace premises for jamboo Savari, the decision will be taken later. The festival will be conducted as per the guidelines of central government. The cultural programmes will be conducted at Palace premises during Navaratri. The artistes irrespective of state, national and international level repute will be invited to perform.

Mayor Tasneem, MLAs S A Ramadass, L Nagendra and Tanveer Sait, K Mahadev, Ashwin Kumar, MLCs R Dharmasena and Srikantegowda, Deputy Commissioner B Sharat, Police Commissioner Dr Chandragupta, SP C B Ryshyanth, DCF Alexander and other officials attended the meeting.
