Cow killed, two seriously injured in tiger attack at Gopalapura

Gundlupet: A cow was devoured and two farmers were seriously injured after a wild tiger attacked them in Gopalapura village in Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagar district on Saturday.

The incident occurred at around 1 pm, when the tiger was spotted devouring cow belonging to one Siddappa at his agricultural field. Gaviyappa a farmer who was passing by was caught off guard as the tiger pounced on him. However, he fought back with a sickle in his hand, forcing the big cat to run away, said locals.

However, by that time Gaviyappa had sustained severe injuries in his face and throat. After about two hours, another villager identified as Rajashekar was attacked by the tiger, resulting in his injuries.

As the villagers gathered, the big cat took shelter in a banana plantation, where it remains till now.

The injured persons have been taken to Gundlupet hospital for treatment.

Forest officials are camping at the village.

As the village is in the fringes of Gopalaswamy Betta range of Bandipur forest, tiger attacks have become common.
