2 min read

Mysuru: Intensifying the demand for high level central bureau of investigation ( CBI) probe into the purchase of medical equipment by the state government towards the treatment of Covid-19 cases, Mysore District Congress Committee on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the district administration.

The memorandum with seven demands addressed to the Governor of Karnataka was handed over by a delegation of leaders led by Mysuru district Congress rural Committee president Dr B J Vijaykumar and city president R Murthy, at the office of Deputy Commissioner.

Vijaykumar told media persons “Opposition leader in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah has raised the issue suspecting irregularities to the tune of Rs 3322.07 crore in the purchase of medical equipment”.

Similarly there seems to be misappropriation of funds in buying food kits that were distributed to migrants and the needy during lockdown.

According to an affidavit filed by BBMP at High Court, 81 lakh food kits are distributed to needy people. But there is no mention of the hotel and bill.

Likewise the department of social welfare ignored the bid of Karnataka Drugs and Logistics Supply to provide sanitiser and thermal scanner at Rs 78 and Rs 3,500 apiece respectively. Instead, they procured sanitiser at Rs 600 per 500 ML bottle and Rs 9,000 for thermal scanner.

It is claimed that the government has provided financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to each to 1,36,2438 construction workers worth Rs 681.22 crore till May 28.

The finance department has released Rs 60 crore against sanctioned Rs 387.5 crore to give Rs 5,000 each to autorickshaw drivers. However the department of transport has failed to provide details on the number of beneficiaries, said Vijaykumar.

Congress leaders Edathale Manjunath, Basavaraj Nayak, Shivaprasad, Prakash Kumar, Shivanna, Eshwar Chakkadi, Seetharam, advocates C M Jagadish, Gopal, Suresh Palya and Vaidyanath, Kantharaj, Thimmaiah, Mahesh, Meenakshi, Kavita, Shivakumar, Hemanth and Mahesh were present.
