Chamarajanagar: Opposition leader Siddaramaiah on Tuesday demanded judicial probe over the death of 24 Covid patients allegedly due to lack of oxygen in the district.

Siddaramaiah who met the officials at the district hospital, told media persons later that the judicial probe is essential as the incident needs to be probed by an independent agency. Moreover the government has also ordered for inquiry and an IAS officer has been entrusted with the task.

The chief minister, health minister and the district incharge minister should own the responsibility and step down from the office. They dont have any moral right to continue in office. The government also doesn’t have any moral responsibility to be in office.

As most of the victims in the incident were the breadwinners of their their families, the government should announce compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased persons.

Prior to this, Siddaramaiah chaired a meeting with the officials and called it as a total failure of the government in the incident. Had the government supplied oxygen cylinders in time, the patients would have got oxygen support. Or else will the officials be performing puja to the cylinders? he asked.
