1 min read

Chamarajanagar: Was it 24 or only three deaths caused due to alleged lack of Oxygen in the district? Or was it 34 and more and the authorities concerned are allegedly hiding the numbers as a face saving act.

While Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar and district incharge Minister S Suresh Kumar jointly held a meeting with the offiiclas and later told media that “only three people died due to unavailability of oxygen. Most of the other deaths were caused due to comorbidity complaints in the patients.”

As soon as the tragedy unfolded, with 24 deaths reported between Sunday and Monday, with highest of 23 reported from the district hospital and one at Holy Cross Hospital, Kamagere, the ministers duo rushed to Chamarajanagar from Bengaluru.

Both the ministers visited the Covid hospital and took stock of the situation, but stopped short from going into the details as the state government has ordered for a probe.

Suresh Kumar said the probe team is instructed to give report within 72 hours.

On the other hand, Congress MLAs C Puttarangashetty and R Narendra found fault with the number of deaths. It is 34 not 24, alleged Shetty who was previously the district minister.

Hanur MLA Narendra alleged that the timing of deaths are also false. The ministers gave mere eyewashing statements, he said.
