Mysuru: With Covid-19 pandemic on a surge, the authorities concerned are mulling over safeguarding the health of senior citizens.

Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar who chaired a Covid review meeting said “in the first phase, a detailed survey of senior citizens who are around three lakh in the district will be conducted, followed by reverse isolation. Contact tracing at the early stage plays a key role in treating the cases. We are thinking to provide 33,000 beds with oxygen supply”, he added.

The minister who was perplexed over the audit of death rate said “around 40 per cent people have died within 24 hours of their  admission at various hospitals”, according to the audit of death rate. In September, 140 deaths were reported due to Covid against  overall 798 fatal cases in the district”.

On the other hand, the rate of positive cases is 10 per cent, with more such cases in city limits.

Citing the situation at Kerala, where the spike in cases were reported especially after Onam festival, Sudhakar said “With Dasara round the corner, we should take corrective steps”.

Mysuru district was earlier a model in Covid management. Now, the district administration has sought two weeks time to control the rate of positive cases and death rate, Sudhakar added.
