Covid-19! Mandya records alarming eight in a day, four linked to Mumbai

Mandya: The Covid-19 curve in Mandya district is going steep as eight persons tested positive on Friday. This is the highest – in the district –  in a single day do far. 

Of the eight, four had returned from Mumbai and the other four had Tablighi link and they are from Malvalli.

A 53-year-old man hailing from Kodagahalli in Pandavapura taluk in Mandya who was an autorickshaw driver in Mumbai had died recently. He was living with his family in Santa Cruz in central Mumbai. He had chest pain and been admitted to government owned U N Desai Hospital there, where he died of cardiac arrest on April 23.

The family members including his wife, son, daughter, son-in-law and grand child and others numbering seven had come from Mumbai along with the mortal remains in the hospital ambulance on April 24, and performed last rites here.

As they were from Mumbai, they were under quarantine at Morarji Desai Model Residential School and four among them have tested positive today, according to the results of the samples received, Deputy Commissioner Dr M V Venkatesh told media.

Venkatesh said, the body had been brought after embalming it with formalin so that it will not decompose for sometime. All precautionary measures had been taken as BBMP Mumbai had issued permission to transport the body in the ambulance.

The total number of cases in Mandya rose to 26 in Friday.
