Covid-19! District administration ready to handle the situation, says DC

2 min read

Mysuru: Following the redux of Covid-19 crises, all Covid Care Centres will be in operation in the district from today.

Briefing media about the preparations to tackle the situation, Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Goutham said “health and family welfare department has been tasked to enforce mandatory wearing of mask, vaccination drive and testings across the district.”

As on today, there are 1025 active Covid cases in the district, and 125 among them are hospitalised. On Sunday positivity rate touched 5.62 per cent, while for overall one week positivity rate was at 2.5 per cent. The surge in cases in Bengaluru impacts the crises in Mysuru, also one of the reasons for the cases to go up here, explained DC.

Besides, there are three clusters in the district- Vani Vilas School, RBI Note Mudran Nagar in the city and T Narasipura with concentrated cases, DC added.

In Mysuru district, there are 14 government Hospitals with 2048 beds, 44 private hospitals with 1661 beds and 21 Covid Care Centers with 600- bed capacity. We are also ready to increase the number of beds by 20-30 % depending on the situation. A centralised software is installed for the management of beds at hospitals, DC added.

The exponential rise of cases are generally attributed to Omicron. In the absence of Genome Sequencing Lab in Mysuru, we are sending the samples to Bengaluru. As of now only two Omicron cases are reported in Mysuru, said DC.

Admitting that panic syndrome is common, DC said, however we appeal people to refrain from unnecessary hospitalisation, as it may affect genuine patients.

Understanding the risks involved in ongoing vaccination drive for adolescents, we have arranged nearly about 800 beds for paediatric care. If necessary we can convert hostels into Covid Care Centres, said Dr Bagadi Goutham.
