Covid-19: Congress blames BSY govt for not providing security to Asha workers

2 min read

Mysuru: Blaming the State government for not providing security to Asha workers and other health care personnel, KPCC spokesperson M Lakshmana urged the BJP government to look into this.

Addressing the media here on Monday, Lakshmana recalled the incidents of attacks on Asha workers.
He urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to ensure their safety before they are sent on field. He further said that health care workers in the state have not been paid salary for four months. Yet, they have put themselves in the front to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. A public interest litigation is filed in this regard in the high court, he added.
Drawing a comparison between Kerala and Karnataka governments, Lakshmana pointed out that neighbouring state is effectively managing the Covid-19 pandemic. Everywhere, not just health care workers are at risk but even media personnel too are facing the risk. Apart from the fear of contracting the virus while out on duty, they are also worried about their jobs. The Kerala government has dedicated Rs 150 cr for the welfare of journalists.
“We want the BJP government to implement the same here,” Lakshmana demanded.
He further said that the neighbouring state has kept aside Rs 20,000 crore for unorganized sector and BJP government should take a cue from it.
KPCC spokesperson Manjula Manasa sought to know the veracity of the claims being made in the distribution of grocery and food kits to the needy.
“There’s no accountability for this. BJP is misusing the state government programmes to their convenience,” she added.
During the press meet, Congress city President R Murthy and Rural congress President BJ Vijaykumar were present.
