Covid-19: Cong questions State govt’s motive to fix exorbitant price at pvt hospitals

2 min read

Mysuru: Coming down heavily on the exorbitant charges fixed by the State government to treat Covid-19 patients at private hospitals, the Congress leaders wondered whether the State government’s motive was to save the lives or otherwise.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson M Lakshmana listed out the charges fixed by the government in private hospitals. Private hospitals will charge Rs 10,000 per day for patients admitted in general ward and Rs 15,000 for isolation wards. Besides, those opting for oxygen mask will have to shell out Rs 12,000 and Rs 25,000 for ventilators. Considering the fact that a patient if tested positive will have to be admitted for 14 days, the hospital expenses will come up to a whopping Rs 6,58,000. “What’s the purpose behind this,” Lakshmana sought to know.

He charged that since both Central and state government have failed in controlling the spread, they have now thrusted it on the people themselves.

“What happened to the funds in PM Cares and CM cares collected to contain the spread of the virus,” he asked.

He claimed that as per the standard treatment protocol, it is the responsibility of the government to provide free treatment to the public. For, people have remained jobless for over three months due to lockdown and now, the government wants the people to bear the expenses all by themselves. Moreover, these charges are not covered by the insurance. This is unfair, he observed.

He further said that though the State government had requested for 35,000 ventilators, the Central government had sent only 90.

“At least, people should understand the BJP’s anti-people policies,” he said.

He also charged the Patanjali Ayurveda for claiming to have medicine for Covid-19 in ‘Coronil’ and ‘SwaSari’. “How could Patanjali develop a medicine without the Central government and World Health Organisation’s permission?

Worst, it has already begun marketing and many people have also bought it. Yet, no action has been taken against it,” he criticised.

He ridiculed the Central government for hiking fuel prices continuously for 21 days.
