Cooperation minister moots uniform software for co-operative banks

2 min read

Bengaluru: In order to digitise banking affairs at Apex Bank, DCC Bank and VSSN Associations, a uniform software system was suggested by Co-operation Minister S T Somashekhar.

These banks come under the purview of the co-operation department.

At a meeting of all stakeholders of these banks on Wednesday, minister Somashekhar asked the bank representatives to deliberate on it with the software agency under the government. A decision will be taken on this after consensus from all the banks.

Meanwhile, officers present at the meeting observed that digitisation of these banks were much needed. They help in preventing cheating and there is little or no option to correct the updated documents. Besides, the software will easily show up on how many times an individual has raised the loan, they observed.

They further said that during loan waiver period, it was very difficult to digitise the whole transactions. Banking staff were finding it difficult to re-enter the data again and again. Besides, it would drain out the manual services. Hence, a uniform software would be an ideal to check all these loopholes.

They agreed on the minister’s suggestion to consult government software agency. They felt that involving private consultancy would be detrimental to these banks. For, they claimed, if the agreement with the private parties is cancelled, it would be difficult to obtain the data from them. At least this won’t be a problem with the government agency. Besides, the consultancy fee would go to the government itself, they observed.

Chief minister’s e-administration adviser Beluru Sudarshan said that any softwares have been developed by the government software agency. Banks may utilise these agencies after consulting with experts.

Additional chief secretary Nagalambika Devi, co-operative sectors manager Prasanna Kumar were present.
