2 min read

Mysuru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Spokesman H A Venkatesh (seen in photo) has urged Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka to take action against former minister and BJP leader K S Eshwarappa for burning a copy of Congress manifesto at a press meet in Kalaburagi.

Venkatesh has observed that the burning of a copy of the manifesto of a party is a clear violation of Model Code of Conduct and Representation of People’s Act. One can criticise the party’s manifesto, but the act of burning the copy before media is an alarming development.

The Manifesto Committee headed by former Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara prepared the manifesto on the experience of KPCC President D K Shivakumar and Opposition Leader in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah. BJP is refering to the proposal to ban Bajrang Dal in the manifesto, but their real apprehension is about the guarantees made in the manifesto.

BJP feels threatened over the way Congress has kindled hopes among the voters by promising guarantees in the manifesto and the political weather is in favour of Congress. The Election Commission should rein in, BJP’s culture of burning and violence, demanded Venkatesh.

The Election Commission should ban Eshwarappa from election campaign and arrest him at the earliest. It is also the utmost duty of Election Commission to act against Eshwarappa as the provocative words are being used by the leader, besides insulting Congress manifesto by burning it.
