Condemning MPs’ silence on Cauvery and Mahadayi issue, farmers to protest on Sept 4

Mysuru: Condemning the silence of Member of Parliamentarians from Karnataka in Cauvery and Mahadayi river issues, farmers will stage a state-wide protest in front of MPs’ offices on September 4.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, State Farmers Union Federation State president Kurubur Shantakumar said that it is unfortunate that MPs from Karnataka have chosen to remain silent when farmers in Cauvery belt are reeling under crisis. Farmers have decided to protest their silence, throughout the State on September 4.

The farmers will also demand to settle Mahadayi river dispute and take up construction of dam at Mekedatu. They will also protest against the State government’s decision to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu neglecting the State’s farmers’ plight.

Apart from this, the farmers will demand that dues from 1500 cane factories be paid to cane growers.

The protest is an attempt to draw the attention of the State government and Member of Parliamentarians towards farmers’ plight.

Federation State working president Veeranagowda Patil, Suresh M Patil, Ramesh Ugar G V Lakshmidevi and others were present.
