Comedian Ratnakar remembered; family wants to name a park after him on Ramanuja Road

Mysuru: Ace comedian of Sandalwood Rathnakar was remembered on his 13th death anniversary, organised at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, JLB road in the city on Saturday.

Rathnakar passed away at the age of 79 on September 21, 2010.

Corporator of Ward-51 B V Manjunath said “The family of Rathnakar, especially his elder son Raghavendra Rathnakar has submitted a memorandum to name the park on Ramanuja road, where the mortal remains of his father were kept, after him. I will take up the matter with authorities concerned.”

President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Mysuru district unit, Maddikere Gopal said “Rathnakar who had acted in over 450 films, had his own quirky voice, that had endeared to many of his fans. Nobody could imitate that tone, that was the uniqueness of Ratnakar.”

Raghavendra Rathnakar enthralled the gathering with the rendition of songs on Sri Manjunatha, Goddess Sri Mookambike and other songs. The song on Mookambike the presiding deity of Kollapur, starts with the line ‘Ambe Jagadambe, Sharanembe Thaayi Mookambe…”, the music for which was composed by Rathnakar himself.

A documentary on Rathnakar was also released during the ceremony.

Ilai Alwar Swamiji, social worker Raghuram Vajpayee, former President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, District unit, M Chandrasekhar, theatre person Rajashekar Kadamba, Leader of Ruling Party M V Ramprasad and others were present.
