C’magaluru Kannada literary meet! Prasanna flays State Government for creating hurdles

Bengaluru: Following the controversy that has erupted over the selection of president of district level Kannada literary meet in Chikkamagaluru, theatre person Prasanna has strongly criticised the State Government.
The two- day meet will start in Sringeri from January 10.
In a press release, Prasanna has said “the government is trying to stop the Chikkamagaluru District Sahitya Sammelan from being held. The state culture Minister, the police and even the town municipal corporation are all putting hurdles in the way of the sammelan. This is a clear case of an attack on the autonomy of cultural Institution. I condemn it”.
We the artistes and writers would be happy if the President of the state sahitya parishat takes a strong stand against such interference in its affairs and refuse the government grant, till such time that the government commits itself to honoring the autonomy of sahitya parishat, he added.
However, I congratulate the people of the State for extending monetary and other support to the Sammelana. I would be attending the Sammelana as a culture activist and would work for its success, said Prasanna.
