Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged deputy commissioners and chief executive officers of Zilla Panchayats of all districts to expedite measures to prevent rain-related damages including shifting people to safe areas in flood-prone areas and ensuring their rehabilitation.
Addressing the officials through video-conferencing on Wednesday, he wanted the officials to set up war room in every district with helpline numbers. With several reports claiming deaths near waterfalls, the officials were asked to take measures to prevent people from venturing into waterfalls or dams, especially during rainy season. He further asked the deputy commissioners to distribute compensation with regard to rain damages from Rs 20 cr in their PD account.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar warned all the district and taluk officials from being away from headquarters, especially during rainy season. He took stock of condition of anganwadis and asked the officials to take up repair works, wherever it is necessary.
Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda informed the meeting that as per Weather department, the State will receive good rainfall until July 29 and the intensity may reduce after August. From June 1 to July 26, 48 people have lost their lives and 35 persons have sustained injuries. Besides, 57 houses have been totally collapsed and 208 houses have been damaged. Also, as many as 2682 houses were partially collapsed, he informed the meeting.
