1 min read

Bengaluru: In a significant development, Karnataka State Commission For Backward Classes submitted the much debated Socio-Educational Survey popular as caste census report to the State Government on Thursday.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah received the report from Chairman of the Commission Jayaprakash Hegde at Vidhana Soudha.

Siddaramaiah said “I have received the report, but I have not gone through the contents of the report. I will take a suitable decision after tabling the report at the Cabinet meeting.”

Hegde said “The report has been prepared on the basis of data collected by the previous Chairman of the Commission H Kantharaju in 2014-15 through deputy commissioners and other Revenue Department officials.”

Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj S Tangadagi was present.

The timing of the report ahead of Lok Sabha elections has raised many eyebrows, with the leaders of Veerashaiva- Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities, the two major castes in the State crying foul.

The MLAs irrespective of party, including ruling Congress’ Vinay Kulkarni and Vijayananda Kashappanavar, both Veerashaiva- Lingayat leaders have reiterated their objection to the caste survey report.
